The Red Shoes Lifting Loans Program

The Red Shoes is “stepping out” in a new way to support women in our community. Through a generous and caring gift that has been entrusted to The Red Shoes as a starter fund, we are offering a micro loan program, Lifting Loans, for women entrepreneurs. Through the Lifting Loans program we are able to assist women in becoming successful as business owners. Sometimes, all that stands between a capable woman with a good idea, and success, is a small amount of start up capital. Inspired by the Grameen Bank, Nobel Peace Prize winning success story, our donors realized that a relatively small amount of money can make a tremendous difference. In studying the Grameen model, we also became aware that women who had women in their own community to support them, were far more successful in their business ventures and in paying back their loans.

Lifting Loans can help women with responsible business plans and strong work ethics change their dreams into reality. Women may apply for these loans after going through certain business training provided by our partner agencies in the community. We have found wonderful partners who have helped us plan and implement this program including UREC (Urban Restoration Enhancement Corporation), The YWCA, the UEP Gulf Coast Coaching Program, the NAACP, Southern University’s Center for Social Research and Louisiana Small Business Development Center. As part of this program, we are recruiting women to volunteer as mentors or coaches for each loan recipient.
